We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the journey of Omar Mentesh, a Project ReMAKE graduate, whose inspiring story has been featured by BBC News.

After spending much of his youth in and out of prison, Omar discovered the transformative power of reading. What began as an escape from prison life became a catalyst for personal growth, education and a new direction.

Following his release in 2017, Omar joined project ReMAKE programme, delivered in partnership with Queen Mary University of London and establish Anabranch Plus Limited, a company dedicated to the rehabilitation of people in prison.

Omar also features in a new BBC documentary, The Book That Changed My Life, led by Queen Camilla. The documentary explores how reading has had a profound impact on the lives of five different people, including Omar, whose story highlights the transformative power of literacy and the opportunities it can create for personal growth and rehabilitation.

Today, he continues to support people in prison and champion the role of literacy in creating

opportunities for change. Omar’s journey is a powerful reminder that people are more than their past, that potential can be unlocked when given the right opportunities, and that meaningful rehabilitation can transform lives and futures.

At Project ReMAKE, we’re proud to have been part of Omar’s journey and to see the positive

impact he continues to make.

Congratulations, Omar. Your story is an inspiration and a testament to the power of second

chances.
